Mrs. Miniver

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Don and I host an “adaptations” book club wherein we read a book and then watch the movie adaptation (yes, it’s fun!). This month’s movie was Mrs. Miniver, and although I confess I didn’t read the book (busy, busy!) the movie was absolutely wonderful. About life on the homefront in England during the early days of World War II, with stellar acting and a wonderful script that is both heartfelt, honest and genuinely funny at times. (From the folks at bookclub, the book takes place before the war and bears little to no resemblance to the movie. Everyone enjoyed it … but it was a different story.)

Highly recommended, and apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so. It won seven Oscars (it’s a 1942 film), including Best Actress for Greer Garson, and Best Supporting for Teresa Wright, who, I finally realized, is “Charlie” from Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt.

At any rate, if you want to watch a really fab film, check it out!
